Sgt. Maj. Michael Manzke

Sergeant Major Manzke, a native of Blaine, Minnesota, enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 2009 and attended recruit training at Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego, California. Following recruit training, he reported to the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton for Marine Combat Training in May 2009. He subsequently attended the Aviation Structural Mechanic Common Core Course and O-Level Strand School at NATTC Pensacola, Florida, before transferring to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training at Camp Pendleton, where he earned the MOS of 6154, H-1 Airframes and Hydraulics Mechanic, in September 2009.

In February 2010, Sergeant Major Manzke reported for duty to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269 (HMLA-269) aboard MCAS New River, North Carolina. As a member of the Airframes Division, he served as a UH-1N and AH-1W Airframes and Hydraulics Mechanic.

In September 2011, he was assigned to Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 261 (Reinforced) and was promoted to Corporal in December 2011. In March 2012, Sergeant Major Manzke deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, during which he advanced to the billet of Collateral Duty Inspector for H-1 Aircraft in June 2012. On 2 November 2012, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Upon returning to HMLA-269 in January 2013, he assumed the duties of Squadron Color Sergeant. After completing the H-1/UH-1Y Upgrade Airframe and Hydraulics Systems Course in April 2013, he was appointed the Squadron Hydraulic Contamination Program Manager and advanced to Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) the following month. He served as the senior CDQAR and SNCOIC for the Airframes Division at DFT Raven in August 2013 and at Blue Air 2-14 in March 2014. In October 2014, his program received noteworthy remarks for earning a perfect score on the Commander's Naval Air Forces Inspection.

In April 2015, Sergeant Major Manzke reported to MCRD Parris Island for Drill Instructor Duty with Lima Company, 3d Recruit Training Battalion. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in October 2016 while serving as a Senior Drill Instructor. In June 2017, he was transferred to Kilo Company to serve as a Chief Drill Instructor and subsequently served as the 3rd Recruit Training Battalion Operations Chief beginning in January 2018. On 2 June 2018, he was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.

In August 2018, Sergeant Major Manzke reported to HMLA-367 at MCB Hawaii, where he quickly re-qualified as a CDQAR. In March 2019, he deployed to Marine Rotational Force Darwin, Australia, as the H-1 Airframes Division Chief. He served as the H-1 detachment's Senior Enlisted Advisor for the final two months of the deployment. Upon his return in September 2019, he was designated a UH-1Y Aerial Observer/Crew Chief and continued his duties as Airframes Division Chief, leading his division to noteworthy results through multiple inspection cycles.

In November 2021, Sergeant Major Manzke reported to HMLA-167 at MCAS New River, where he was assigned to the Quality Assurance Division. He served as a Quality Assurance Representative and Program Monitor for the Hydraulic Contamination, Corrosion Control, and Hazardous Material Control Programs.

Following his promotion to First Sergeant in January 2022, he reported to Charlie Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, at Camp Lejeune. In January 2023, he was selected to serve as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2d Marine Logistics Group. In January 2025, Sergeant Major Manzke reported to 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and deployed with Alpha Company to Exercise Joint Viking-25 in Norway. Upon his return, he was assigned as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.

In May 2026, Sergeant Major Manzke assumed his current position as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2d Marine Division.

Sergeant Major Manzke's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars
