Sergeant Major, 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion
Sergeant Major Robert N. Brown

Sergeant Major Brown is a native of Baltimore, MD.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 23, 2003, and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC.  He completed his military occupational specialty school in Meridian, MS, and was designated an Aviation Operations Clerk.  
 
In May 2004, Private First Class Brown was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 29 Jacksonville, NC. In February 2005, Lance Corporal Brown was augmented to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 Cherry Point, NC to support Operation Iraqi Freedom-Iraqi Governance. While deployed, Lance Corporal Brown was selected to join Lieutenant General Milstead’s Personal Security Detachment and attended Weapons, Tactics, and Evasive Driving School in Virginia Beach, VA. Upon graduation, he returned to Iraq and served with the Staff Section, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing (Fwd).
 
In February 2006, Corporal Brown returned to MAG-29 where he served as the Training Noncommissioned Officer for Headquarters Company.  In February 2007, he deployed with MAG-29 (Fwd) to support Operations Iraqi Freedom-Iraqi Surge. 
 
In July 2007, Sergeant Brown was assigned to MAG-24 Kaneohe Bay, HI and was selected to become the Operations Chief for Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363. In February 2009, Sergeant Brown deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. 
 
In November 2010, Sergeant Brown was assigned to Marine Corps Air Station, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as Flight Clearance Chief and Training Officer for the Headquarters Section.
 
In April 2014, Staff Sergeant Brown received orders to report to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA, Drill Instructor School. Upon completion, he was assigned to Company M, Third Recruit Training Battalion. He held the billets of Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, and instructed at Support Battalion as a Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival. 
 
In June 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Brown received orders to Marine Corps Air Station, New River, NC. At Marine Corps Air Station New River, Gunnery Sergeant Brown served as C-12 Detachment Operations Chief, Airfield Operations Chief, and Ground Training Chief, while also fulfilling duties as Company Gunnery Sergeant and Airfield Security Officer.  
 
Gunnery Sergeant Brown received orders to MAG-24 in August 2020, and held the billets of Operations Chief, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Operations Security Officer.  
 
In August 2022, First Sergeant Brown was assigned to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, “America’s Battalion”, Camp Lejeune, NC.  He held the billets of Company First Sergeant for Company F “Freedom”, and Headquarters Company and deployed to the Indo-Pacific Region on Unit Deployment Program 24.1.  In July 2024, First Sergeant Brown was assigned to Headquarters Company, 2d Marine Regiment.
 
In October 2025, Sergeant Major Brown was promoted to his current rank and assumed duties as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 2d Combat Engineer Battalion.
