Maj. of the MEU, spoke to Marines and Sailors from 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division about the upcoming Black Sea Rotational Force deployment July 10, 2014 at Camp Lejuene, N.C. Fulford and Schmitt wrapped up the speeches by answering questions from the Marines about the deployment and telling the battalion the 26th MEU is looking forward to working with them. A sailor attached to the USS Oak Hill serves food to a homeless veteran at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans for a community relations event, July 3. During the city’s 33rd annual Fourth of July Harborfest, Marines and sailors spent their time giving back to the community, working static displays, conducting tours of the USS Oak Hill and interacting with the public. U.S. Navy officers aboard the USS Oak Hill prepare food to serve to junior enlisted Marines and sailors during a steel beach barbeque held aboard the ship while in route to Boston for the city’s annual Fourth of July Harborfest, June 29. The barbeque is a tradition that helps aid in cohesion between the two services which share a common heritage reflected in their ability to rapidly deploy, project power, and operate from naval vessels or austere expeditionary bases.
