Lance Cpl. Clay C. Gentry, a radio operator with 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, receives his Purple Heart medal citation from the battalion’s executive officer, Major Henry J. Parrish, Feb. 4, 2011, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C. The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President and is America’s oldest decoration still presented to service members.
