FIRE BASE SAENS, Helmand province, Afghanistan—Smoke blasts from the muzzle break of the M777 A2 Howitzer as a satellite-guided Excalibur XM982 Precision Engagement Projectile makes its way down range to support a collation force calling for fire. Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines is one of the busiest batteries in Afghanistan as they provide 24-hour a day, 7-day a week support to any unit within range of their guns.
