Sergeant Erik Goodge poses for a photo with Col. Christian Cabaniss, formally the commanding officer of 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, the unit Goodge was deployed with when an improvised explosive device took his eye. The morning Goodge lost his eye, he and Marines from Company G were patrolling with Afghan soldiers searching for improvised explosive devises and insurgents.
